Enrolment

Enrolment Information
  • Your child is entitled to access 15 hours per week, over 4 terms (1 year) of government preschool in the year before they start school.

Children who turn 4 years old:

  • before 1 May can start preschool at the beginning of the year
  • on 1 May to 31 October can start preschool through the mid-year intake at the start of term 3 of that year
  • after 31 October can start preschool at the start of the following year.

Regardless of whether your child starts at the beginning of the year, or through a mid-year intake they will attend 4 terms of preschool.

If you are not sure about the best time for your child to start preschool or feel your child may benefit from starting preschool later, talk to us about your options.

  • On Sunday 27 August 2023, the Commissioner the Hon Julia Gillard AC, handed down the final report outlining the findings and recommendations of the Royal Commission into Early Childhood Education and Care. To read the full report visit: www.royalcommissionecec.sa.gov.au/

Early childhood education and care is important for all children. The Royal Commission’s final report has made recommendations about work that can be done to help provide the best start for all children in the early years from birth to age 5. Three-year-old preschool will be implemented starting from 2026 and will be rolled out, by region, with all 3 year old children eligible to access preschool by 2032.

The state government has begun work on the areas of reform needed to implement the Royal Commission’s recommendations. We will provide you with updates as we know more. Any enquiries should be directed to the Department for Education via education.oeyroyalcommission@sa.gov.au

Registration of Interest

You can register your interest to enrol your child with us by using the preschool registration of interest form. This form is also available from us.

Please try to register your interest for the next intake by 30th June for beginning of year intake or by 31st October for mid-year intake, however you can do this any time during the year.

Priority will be given to children living in our catchment area. If you don’t live in our catchment area you should indicate at least 2 other preschool options on your form.

Verifications

Due to the high interest in Goodwood Preschool and priority for families within our catchment area, at the time of registering your interest, you will also need to provide verification of your residence in the form of:

  • A copy of your property’s Contract of Sale / Council Rates or a Rental Agreement.
  • A copy of your most recent Gas or Electricity bill.
Immunisation

It is a requirement that children entering into early childhood settings are up-to-date with their immunisations before they can be enrolled. Upon acceptance of an offer, you will be required to provide evidence of your child’s immunisation record. If your child has further immunisations during their preschool year, you will be required to forward a copy of their updated record to the Preschool Leader.

Fees

We ask you to contribute towards the cost of your child attending preschool.

The parent contribution is $880 per year. You can choose to pay the total amount at the beginning of the year or pay instalments of $220 each term. All invoices are issued by the Business Manager, located in the school front office, with payments being made through the Qkr! App.

Early Entry

Aboriginal children and children who are or have been in care are eligible for 15 hours of preschool a week after they turn 3, continuing until they start school.

If you have a child with a disability or additional needs, they may be able to start preschool earlier if there are places available. Talk to us if this applies to you. Early entry to preschool does not guarantee early entry to school.

EYLF Program

Our education programs are guided and informed by the principles, practices and outcomes of the Early Years Learning Framework – Belonging, Being and Becoming.

The Early Years Learning Framework defines 5 outcomes for children’s learning:

  • Children have a strong sense of identity
  • Children are connected with and contribute to their world
  • Children have a strong sense of wellbeing
  • Children are confident and involved learners
  • Children are effective communicators

Belonging, Being and Becoming: The Early Years Learning Framework for Australia (EYLF)

Session Times

Goodwood Preschool fulfils the 15 hours for every child, over a 2 week period, operating on a structure of 2 full days, 8.30am-3.15pm, and a half day, 8.30am-11.30am, each fortnight. The group sessions are:

  • Yarta (Group 1) – Monday, Tuesday and Friday morning of the odd weeks of the term.
  • Ngayirda (Group 2) – Wednesday, Thursday and Friday morning of the even weeks of the term.

Each term, there is an allocated student free day, in-line with the school, where the preschool is not open and staff engage in professional learning.

Preschool children are able to access the Goodwood Primary School and Preschool OSHC service for before and/or after preschool care, as well as on student free days.

Volunteering

We enjoy learning with and from our extended community through having volunteers support our program. There is a requirement to have an up-to-date ‘Working With Children Check’ as well as having completed the mandatory notification training, which is a short on-line course. If you’d like to volunteer with us, we’d love to hear from you.
